gifts for her {but really for you}

if you are a last minute shopper {like we sometimes are} then here is a list of gifts for her that she is sure to love. but really, you should just treat yourself to something. i mean all of this shopping, running around like a chicken with your head cut off, and eating holiday candy is really stressful. so you deserve a treat! ;) that's what we tell ourselves anyway.

it's been pretty dreary here in seattle {as to be expected} so all i can think to put on everyday is a big chunky knit sweater to keep me warm, since i'm always cold. i've already worn this sweater and beanie multiple times {including this weekend} since i got it 2 weeks ago and it's more than kept me warm. this weekend, we spent time catching up with friends during the crazy holiday season, and i may or may not have done some damage at the mall this weekend while shopping for xmas presents {oops}. hope you all had a fab weekend! only 3 more weeks til xmas, can you believe it!?

mad about plaid.

plaid is everywhere, and a trend that is always in style. but sometimes it can get a little stale, so i love finding plaid prints in different textures and silhouettes, like this sheer tunic style i'm wearing in today's post. i paired it with a chunky knit sweater and floppy hat.

putting together fun outfits is only thing getting me through this week...coming back after a holiday weekend is so tough. i'm still on lay on the couch and eat copious amounts of left-overs mode. guess i have to snap out of it and get back in gear! {talk to next monday and let's see if i'm there yet, lol}.

holiday weekend.

hope you all enjoyed a nice few days off with your loved ones. it was so nice to have a long weekend {well semi-long since nicole and i work in retail we both had to work for a bit on friday}.

as i mentioned in last week's post, nicole's husband nate had to work on thanksgiving so she spent the day with us at my mom's in gig harbor. we stayed in comfies all day long and cooked for hours. it was such a beautiful day out so my mom and i went on a long 2 hour walk downtown to help digest all the yummy food throughout the day. dinner was great and consisted of: turkey {duh}, broccoli and cauliflower cheesy casserole, garlic mashed potatoes, maple brussel sprouts with craisans and gorgonzola, {and attempted to make gluten free cheddar biscuits but where a total bust-if you know of a good one, let me know}. for desert, vegan chocolate pumpkin pie and mini apple bourbon cakes with vanilla ice cream...YUM.

on friday after work wes and i headed to packwood, wa where his uncle has a cabin. for the past 4 years we have gone there and watched the apple cup {univ of washington vs wash state} battle it out since we are a family divided by two teams, and then spend the weekend playing games, drinking and laughing. on the last day we drive up into the mountains, bundle up in the snow and cut down a christmas tree! it's such a fun tradition and one i can't wait to pass onto our kids someday.

{at my mom's on thanksgiving getting cozy}

{cheers! fireball apple cider cocktails-our fav!}

{love the snow!}
hope you are getting through the week's always so hard after a long weekend!

thanksgiving wear 2015.

this year, nicole and i are having a low-key thankgiving at my mom's house. since i am an only child and all my family resides in other states, we usually have a very small thanksgiving. last year, wes and i hosted for the first time in our new house, which was so fun, but a lot of work. this year, since nate has to work, nicole is going to join in on our small tradition, which i absolutely love. the best part being, we get to stay in our sweats all day, create our own menu, and retire to the couch while the food cooks in the oven. so we thought we would share some of our thanksgiving day comfies and must-haves.

thanksgiving comfies
comfy clothes, an ipad, cozy throw and our favorite cocktail are the perfect recipe for a great thanksgiving!

hope you all have a wonderful day whatever you may be doing. we are so thankful for you all and the joy that you bring us each and every day.

mock neck.

i am loving turtle necks and mock necks this season...there is something surprisingly fresh and fun about it. not to mention it really does keep you warm. this was the first time i had put on hosiery in quite some time and i don't know how i feel about it. i'm not sure if i'm more upset that it's too cold to bare my legs, or the fact that they are so dang white! either way, this dress is so darling, and under $40! and if you know anything about us, you know we love a good stripe ;)
