show me the stripes.

ok, so i have something to admit. the free people sweater that we posted about last week? well i own it in 3 colors. and this striped one just happens to be my favorite {well let's be honest, they are all my favorite}. anytime i can throw something on that is not only comfortable but goes with pretty much anything is a win. i love the silouhette of this sweater too and how it flatters all the right areas and is longer in the back. no joke, i have already had 5 people come up to me at work and tell me they bought it too after seeing me wear it {umm, hello fp, where's the royalties?? hehe}.

it's monday already?

do you ever wonder how monday rolls around so quick and friday takes forever to get here? yah, us too. but there are some ways to make monday more manageable...starting with your wardrobe. there is nothing worse than getting up tired and grumpy on a monday morning and trying to figure out what to wear. chances are you will leave the house in an outfit you don't love and will spend the entire day feeling crummy because you are wearing a mediocre ensemble. we have the perfect recipe to avoiding this hot mess of a monday!

  • plan your outfits for the week on sunday {attempt for all 5 days, but if you can only pick one oufit, at least you've gotten that far}
  • go through your pinterest board {or our blog posts: shameless plug} for outfit inspiration, then pull out all items from your closet to make an entire outfit, including shoes and accessories.
  • hang clothes for the week outside of your closet so they don't get lost {a hang bar works great, but if you don't have room, just pull out the entire outfit and lay it near your bed or hang on your door}
  • do your hair the night before-i always wash my hair at night and either straighten or or blow dry before bed and then do a quick curl in the  morning. dry shampoo is your friend {try using it in your hair before bed 24 hours after a wash and it will be fresh in the morning}

{hang your outfit on the back door so it's ready and visible in the am}

{invest in a rolling rack to plan outfits for the week}

{don't forget your accessories!}

{fav dry shampoo-it really works!}

last but not least, enjoy a LARGE cup of your favorite coffee and SMILE! it's gonna be a great week.

on repeat.

when you find an article of clothing that is comfortable, fashionable, and comes in a variety of colors and patterns, sometimes you need to buy a few of them. this is the case for this free people sweater. it's amazing layered over a dress, with jeans, or under a leather. the material is so soft and cozy you will never want to take it off! {trust us...we both own it in multiple colors}

saturday funday.

this past saturday was so gorgeous out we decided to spend the day in the city. jenna's dad is here visiting for the week and we had mariners tickets for that night, and because it was so nice we wanted to spend as much time outside as possible. we took the water taxi from west seattle across to the city, walked the market, had a few drinks and eventually made our way to the game. we must have walked at least 5 miles and by the time we were ready to make our way into the stadium, the thought of walking another step was unbearable {we def had not had enough drinks at that point} so what other way  to go, than by pedi-cab {you know, those guys that have large seats on the back of their bikes and weave in and out of cars like crazy people}! it was the best $20 we ever spent. all in all it was the perfect day exploring new places in this beautiful city we get to call home.

our first closet makeover.

a couple weeks ago one of jenna's co-workers who follows the blog asked us to come over and help her clean out her closet. she wanted to get rid of things, but needed a little help and that extra push to say goodbye to things she had kept for years but never actually wore. she also had a few pieces that she wasn't sure how to style and needed some guidance on creating outfits with items she already owned.

kara is super organized so it made our job pretty easy! she had two closets full of shoes, clothes and accessories. when we got there she had a few bags of stuff that she had already gone through so we started with those just to make sure she wasn't getting rid of anything that could work with other items in her closet. we then started on her main closet and began pulling pieces out asking key questions like "when was the last time you wore this?" and "how would you wear this?". if she hadn't worn it within the last year it got put in the donate pile and if she wasn't sure how to style a particular piece we put it aside. when we were done we went back to those questionable pieces and put outfits together for her.

as we were putting more and more pieces into the donate pile, we were also compiling a list of things she needed and things we were getting rid that just needed to be updated. {summer staples, basic tees and tanks, printed denim, a black flat, etc.}

{the first of two closets}

{this picture doesn't even do justice of how many hangers we were able to get rid of!}
{the many pairs of shoes we were able to part with}
{after we were done she had so much room in her closet for some new pieces}
{kara saying goodbye to all her clothes, shoes and accessories}
after we were done cleaning out her closet, we then put together three outfits for her using what she already owned. these were items she was unsure how to style or didn't think fit her just right. outfit one were these awesome printed pants but she had no idea how to wear them or what kind of top would go with them. we had her try on a couple different tops to show her that they were actually a lot easier to style then she realized. you can't go wrong with a basic tee and leather jacket to compliment a print. add a simple black heel and you're set! outfit two was a tan leather jacket that she hadn't worn in a long time so we paired it with a flare jean and a basic white tee, and added a gold necklace. outfit three was our favorite-a bright magenta dress that she never wore because she thought it was too short, but when we had her try it on and it looked so cute on her and was actually the perfect length. again, we paired it with a simple black leather jacket and strappy wedge {she had a bachelorette party that weekend and it was the perfect outfit!}

after we finished at her house we set a date to go shopping and start checking things off her list. we have since gone twice and are always on the look out for new pieces to add to her closet!

this is thirty. {tater's surprise birthday weekend}

last friday we went out to dinner to celebrate nicole's 30th bday. little did she know that nate, wes and i were conspiring with three of her best friends from california who were on their way up to surprise her. unfortunatley, their flight was delayed a couple hours which meant we had to keep nicole out on the town until 1am {not hard to do after we entered a kareoke bar and ordered a bottle of champs...yes i said bottle}.

the look on her face when they walked into the bar was absolutely priceless and there may have even been a few tears {it may have been the champs talking because if you know nicole you know she doesn't cry}.

we spent the whole weekend being tourists in our own city and laughing uncontrollably all while eating and drinking our way through seattle!

{it was freezing but we had to do the space needle and enjoyed a drink at the top}

this was seriously one of the greatest surprises of my life. i am forever grateful to my besties for taking the time to fly to seattle and hang with me as i leave a huge chapter in my life for an even greater one. i know this is cliche but i truly have THE BEST friends a girl could ask for. it means more to me than they know that they came to celebrate with me. and i know it couldn't have worked without the help of my hubs, tot and wes - thank you for helping make this happen it was more than i ever expected and i am so extremely happy that you all conspired together because it was one of the best weekends of my life. cheers to a new decade of making memories, having fun, not taking life too seriously and of course eating and drinking our way through the years. this is thirty.
